In 1998, here lay a vacant lot and there lay three vacant houses and herein lay a great idea. The land was prime, yet undeveloped, and the houses were set to be demolished. Our founders set out to save the houses — picking them up, bringing them here and building a restaurant from them. After many months of hard work, their dreams became a reality and The Spot was born.
In 2002, The Spot was purchased by local resident and BOI (Born on the Island) Dennis Byrd. He began here when we originally opened, working his way up from dishwasher to delivery boy, cashier to cook. He learned the ropes of the restaurant business, and accomplished his dream of owning a restaurant by purchasing the only restaurant he had ever worked in.
With Dennis at the helm, The Spot has grown, expanding year after year to become, well, Island Famous. We introduced the laidback island style of Tiki Bar in 2005, followed shortly thereafter by our trio of concept bars: Squeeze Ritas & Tequilas, RumShack and SideYard. Each location offers its own unique look, atmosphere and appeal, giving you, our valued guest, five concepts to choose from — all in one convenient Spot!
Along the way, we added two beachfront hotels to provide guests with the perfect weekend getaway. At our DoubleTree by Hilton Galveston Beach, guests can enjoy a relaxing tropical environment and swim-up bar. At our Holiday Inn Express & Suites, located within walking distance from our bars and restaurant, guests can order room service directly from our scratch kitchen.
